Everyone Else is a Returnee – Chapter 95: You, I, Strangers – 14

(Translation changes: league (soul) -> tier)

It would be the best if chaos ensued until the battle ended, but there was a limit to that. The dragons became wary when their numbers decreased by a significant amount, and analysed the situation around themselves in a more objective way, and finally understood that Yu IlHan’s weakness was exposed as he was assaulting the dragons.

Presence. To bring out the maximum effects of the battlefield he had created, he was moving around all over the place, and could not use his strongest card – his concealment.

From that moment, a portion of the dragons changed their strategy. They became wary to not give into Yu IlHan’s provocation and attacked him with long range magic. From that moment onwards, Yu IlHan’s injuries started increasing.
In fact, Yu IlHan thought that he had done this more than enough. He had taken back much more than he invested since the dragons were more stupid than he had expected!

Amongst them, some 3rd class dragonkin tried to pull out the pillars embedded in the grounds by diving towards the earth and flipping over the entire soil, but Yu IlHan just ignored them. If the pillars and harpoons were something that could be nullified by 3rd class beings, then he wouldn’t have made them in the first place.

[Ugh, how does he endure so well even though he looks so weak?]
[We need to freeze him first! Shit! Why was I born with the powers of fire!]

The right moment arrived. He used his harpoons enough, and the dragons started leaving behind their allies tied by the harpoons and started to act to kill Yu IlHan. Now, Yu IlHan also needed to go to the next stage.

Immediately after he decided, Yu IlHan kicked off the ground into the air. While the dragons tied to the ground couldn’t move, he planned to decrease the airborne dragons as much as possible.

[Now we don’t care anymore. Die!]

A completely intact 4th class dragon charged towards him. The dragon’s grandeur while charging with all sorts of strengthening and support magic cast on itself was very vicious.

However, Yu IlHan checked behind before he took out a pile bunker from his Cross Bag, and shot the pile bunker as soon as the dragon arrived near him and opened its mouth!

[Critical Hit!]

The might of the pile bunker which focused all its power into a single shot, could be called peerless; It broke through all the strengthening and defense magic before piercing through the tongue and the lower jaw. WHen Yu IlHan transferred the weight, the dragon fell by itself.

Meanwhile, due to the rebound from the pile bunker Yu IlHan was shot backwards without the need for a re-leap. He took out another pile bunker. Everything around him were dragons and dragonkin anyway.

[You’re using it to attack and as a driving force at the same time.] (Erta)

Ordinary humans, and even humans with exceptional battle power are bound to be ruled by the environment they are living in.

They could only panic when they are suddenly thrown into the air as there was no footing nor was it easy to focus, so be it swords or guns, it was difficult to bring out their proper abilities. On top of that, if they were fighting a monster who had superior aerial maneuverability, it was very easy for them to get hurt.

However, Yu IlHan had in the end, due to the continuous aerial fights he partook in since coming to Dareu, become used to moving around in the way he wants while maintaining situational awareness around him in all 6 directions (front, behind, left, right, up, down) to fight multiple enemies.
Despite not having wings, he was bringing out enough changes in vectors just with re-leaps and pile bunker rebounds!

[Now, capture him!]

A portion of the dragons opened their mouths and breathed out violent flames to attack Yu IlHan. At this point, it would be reasonable if they realized that Yu IlHan was strong against fire, but as their innate attributes were based on fire, they had no other choice.

Yu IlHan recklessly went head in towards the flames that seemed like they could eviscerate the entire world. Now that he had experienced the pain of getting burnt so many times, he had gotten used to it.
His eyes shined sharply even within the pouring flames to look at the roof of the dragon’s mouth.

Yu IlHan re-leaped within the flames. Shooting out from the flames, Yu IlHan held pointed the pile bunker upwards and struck it on the roof of the dragon’s mouth.

“Eat this too!”

It was a little disappointing to leave just a single attack, so Yu IlHan threw a few grenades into the punctured hole and on top of the tongue, before quickly leaving the premises.

[This way!]
[If we miss this opportunity more of our kin will die, attack!]

However, the other dragons all started activating magic at that moment as if they had waited for it. Even though their ally dragon will suffer more damage in this situation, they became enraptured in the thought to kill Yu IlHan after seeing so many of their kin dying!

Now, they couldn’t care less about Destruction Demon Army or whatever. To them, Yu IlHan was an archenemy they couldn’t share the skies with! An enemy they had to kill at all costs!
The situation was pretty clear just from looking at the fact that they were using more mana to their magic. Only 3rd class dragonkin died from the friendly fire.

[Yu IlHan, you’re surrounded!]
“Careful not to get hit by stray fire.”

Shields were made for these kind of moments. He called out hundreds of shields to encapsulate him.

Would it sound like this if you fry billions of beans with many different frying pans? Numerous and varied magic hit on the layers upon layers of shields and terrorized Yu IlHan’s eardrums. He could only endure with the thought that this was much better than getting hit head on.
Although the time they could stay in the air was very short, the shields that appeared exactly at the moment when the magic was about to strike, splendidly did their job before returning to the Cross Bag. Of course, as Yu IlHan couldn’t block all the damage from the numerous magic, he had to take out a cheer pack hurriedly.

[You’re drinking ‘Breath’. Health increases rapidly and and rest energy recharges. A little bit of Magic increases. All battle senses become sharper.]

When the hundreds of shields disappeared and Yu IlHan appeared completely intact, the dragons became enraged.

[Y, you monster!]
[We can’t let him live. They’re making a mistake. They got their priorities wrong. We need to erase this guy before anything else!]

Seeing their reactions, Yu IlHan giggled. Seeing that even the calmer dragons were starting to panic, it seemed that Yu IlHan had a talent for taunting enemies.

Yu IlHan deployed re-leap and approached one of them before taking out a new pile bunker.
He still had a lot of weapons left; and the alcoholic drink he made from their blood was recovering his health endlessly.

“You’re too late to realize that, fellows. Well, do your best.”

When Yu IlHan barely landed on the ground, the sky was already coloring red. Not due to the flames from the dragons, nor from their blood – It was becoming sunset.

Yu IlHan collected the last dragon that died to his Cross Bag before calling out a piece of information onto his retina.

[Killing 4th class 1,000/1,000]

“Fuu, that was easy.”
[Hah, yeah right.] (Erta)
[You really did it.] (Reta)

In contrast to Erta’s sarcastic remark, Reta expressed her heartfelt exclamation. Yu IlHan laughed and sucked on the cheer pack. It was not Breath but Bloodrink.

“It’s good that Breath recovers my health and my rest energy, but the problem is that it makes me dizzy.”
[That’s an expected side effect.] (Erta) (P/R Its alcohol)

He filled his health completely, and even completed repairing his equipment temporarily. There was not a single dragonkin corpse on the beach. Only remains of pile bunkers were around, along with ballistas and harpoons without their targets, which were all reflecting the dull light of sunset to reveal a cruel sight.
He was worried that his Cross Bag may really burst, but he decided to believe in Erta’s words that she will increase the capacity even if she had to call out a hundred angels.

Then now, it was time to open the gift box.

[Class advancement quest complete! Will you advance to Blazing Reaper?]

“It’s finally time.”
[It really was a long time.] (Erta)
[Class advancement, eh. So it already comes to this. You really are absurdly fast.] (Erta)

Yu IlHan achieved 2nd class in the fight with Reta. Even though not much time had passed since that had happened, he was now getting his 3rd, which made Reta stupefied.

[I’m not even completely ready yet but……. It can’t be helped.] (Reta)

However, her following words were slightly strange. Yu IlHan asked while tilting his head.

“Can’t help what?”
[If you acquire the same tier as what I once was by advancing then the probability of success for my magic will be infinitely lowered.] (Reta)

Yu IlHan’s brows twitched. This sounded quite worrying.

[Yes, magic.] (Reta)

The moment Reta said that, everything changed.

Starting from the land that Yu IlHan was stepping on, blue light started reaching endlessly towards all directions – beyond the small island into the seas. Perhaps it may reach the end of the continent.

Seeing that unrecognizable geometric shapes were appearing within the blue light that covered the surroundings, Yu IlHan thought os something.

“Is this the magic formation?”
[Correct. This is the formation that the ancient empire cast over the entire continent. It’s an amazing magic formation that could be considered the essence of elven magic. It’s also the formation that you’ve been using for mere spatial transfers until now.] (Reta)

‘Mere’ spatial transfer… Yu IlHan asked back in a bitter voice.

“So it has other uses.”
[It is said that the emperor of the elven empire pursued eternal life with this formation; casting away the aged flesh, and transferring the soul to another person’s body.] (Reta)

Yu IlHan thought that that kind of magic was an evil magic that beings fit to be last bosses would use.

[I, who was about to become its sacrifice, could kill him with the help of my allies, and became the new master of the formation. It was possible only because the dragons caused chaos in the empire.] (Reta)

However, she could not use it. The power of the dragons were too strong, and soul transfers were difficult to activate against opponents that had similar or higher tiers as them.

At the last moment, she cast soul transfer against a dragon, which made her fall into a becoming a Breaker. However, she was an exceptional deathgod, and gathered her fragmented soul, which should have disappeared naturally, and succeeded in imbuing them into her own body and her artifact.

Then, she finally met a sacrifice; with the name Yu IlHan, and the one that had more talent than anyone else.

As such, all of her words until now, except the fact that dragons were her archenemies, were lies!

Yu IlHan tried to lift his arm, but he couldn’t.

Now, he tried to commence the advancement with just his will alone, but no matter how much he willed it, no text appeared on his retina. His physical body did not listen to him at all.

[You are extremely exceptional, but have no sense of crisis. I think that you will lose your life while focusing on enjoying yourself like that.] (Reta)

Reta laughed coldly.

[I was once a deathgod; one that specialized in handling the power of souls. That was why I could imbue my soul into an artifact, and could activate the elven magic formation despite not having a physical body. Did you not realize? That I was too free? That I could harbor treacherous intentions?] (Reta)
“Would it sound like a lie if I told you that I wanted to believe in you?”

Now, it was difficult to even speak. That was natural, as an enormous magic formation installed over an entire continent was wholly activating in order to bind Yu IlHan.

That was a truly enormous power. Thinking about it, Yu IlHan thought that the magic stones he used to activate the formation may have not been used completely and were used to store energy within the formation.

[Without fear, You poured the life force of many to me who was dwelling within your soul. That made my thought processes more distinct, and enhanced what little powers I had left.
Aah, you should have realized that there was a problem when the elven magic formation recognized me as the master and not you!] (Reta)

Now that he heard it, it was really like that. She was a mere fragmented soul. Even though she was a thought that could not show herself outside even after eating all that lifeforce, Reta Kar’iha could use the magic formation of her own will as the master.

Then, she could also use the formation to go against Yu IlHan’s will.

[It was so difficult for me to hold back my laughter while you were talking about your predictions with this magic formation. Future prediction? Dragons do what? YOU’RE WRONG! This magic formation is something that NO ONE can do anything about other than the elves. It is the grand formation to lead our race into prosperity!] (Reta)

The power of the magic formation that bound Yu IlHan started being sucked into his body. An enormous amount of mana that he could not endure whittled away his body and his psyche.

[I will take over your body. I will defeat all the dragons belonging to Destruction Demon Army, and ally with the Garden of Sunset in order to develop Dareu once again.] (Reta)

Reta laughed. As her soul started off within Yu IlHan’s body, soul transfer magic activated  successfully.
As she had already started to take control of Yu IlHan’s senses, Yu IlHan’s lips were twitching upwards without his will.

[Please do not believe in others so easily from now on. Oh, your soul will disappear so that kind of realization is no good for you now.] (Reta)
[Well, I’m not so sure about that.] (Erta)

Erta, who was watching until now, finally spoke. It was very strange considering the emotions she had towards Yu IlHan, but Reta was too much im ecstasy to realize at all.

Erta was still on top of Yu IlHan’s head, but her expression even looked slightly proud.

[I don’t think you need to teach him that.] (Erta)
[What?] (Reta)

Just as when Erta spoke, and Reta snorted.
Yu IlHan spoke with difficulty.

“Wake up already.”

When he spoke in a whisper-like voice, a sleeping thought inside him opened its eyes.
The thought that even Reta, who had enhanced her powers through the magic formation and the life force, had forgotten about.

“If you’re up, bite her to death.”

In the two months that didn’t last an instant.
Within the barrier that ‘Reta could not enter’, Yu IlHan let the Orochi eat ‘all’ of the life force of dragonkin he had acquired until now. And now, that Orochi was roaring loudly.

[Orochi……. How? I, it’s the barrier! You, you knew already! You didn’t believe in me! Since the start!] (Reta)

Yu IlHan laughed at Reta’s shriek. It was a much more natural smile than before.

It wasn’t Reta who had moved. In the process of Reta’s thought being crushed by the Orochi, Yu IlHan had regained control of his body and laughed.

“You should listen to the end, shouldn’t you?”
[Kruooooooooo!] (Orochi)

The last insurance for the opponent that he wanted to believe in, but couldn’t, had finally come into play.

Author’s notes

  1. Yes, Reta was an enemy from start to finish. She wouldn’t have been a threat if he left her alone, but IlHan let her grow so much. Although, he did that because he had something to rely on.
  2. It’s natural, but not all blatant foreshadows come true!
  3. Of course, I threw some baits here and there until now. Oh, and as the title too.
  4. Some might have noticed when Yu IlHan didn’t proceed with the advancement right away and delayed for a moment.
  5. Wait for the next chapter for the deal between Yu IlHan and the Orochi.
  6. Yu IlHan had driven out Reta through the Orochi. However, that was the Orochi’s trap! The Orochi uses the formation that Reta already activated in order to take control of Yu IlHan!? Thank you for loving Everyone Else is a Returnee until now. Tomorrow, it will be the start of ‘Everyone Else is human’ with the Orochi as the main character……… (It’s a lie)

I want to say “Nonsense, this happy-go-lucky fellow predicted someone would betray him? And a “thought”, none the less? I don’t buy this” — but, really, thinking back, he did proclaim that he’s a loner who doesn’t like to put his trust in anyone, so at least the author put that foreshadowing in there when he spoke to Erta about his “bad enlightenment”.

        1. Jonathan Hurd

I think Lita is kind of a special case for Yu Ilhan. In her case its less trust and I feel closer to blind faith. She kept him sane through a million years of loneliness. She has also helped him greatly throughout his time in those years and afterwards.

Her character has also been shown to be pretty straight forward. She honestly has no real reason to use deception she has the power to beat her way to victory.

I think Erta has been working her way up into Yu Ilhan’s good books after all the time they have been together. I would doubt he a hundred percent trusts her, but like Liera he owes her a bunch too. That is one thing I really like about Yu Ilhan is he always repays good will. He will look after those who have helped him like his parents, Liera, Erta, or even the Empress.

I think Liera, Erta, and his parents are pretty damn high because they are people he would risk his life to protect.

“She kept him sane through a million years of loneliness.”

Now where did that million came from?
I agree about that he trust Lita and also he more or less trust Erta. After all what was it? Repay kindness with kindness? Or something like that.

      1. Jonathan Hurd

Look at his record it would be more amazing if he trusts anyone at all. Seeing how the majority of humans have acted towards him after the Cataclysm it is not hard to understand why he would be distrustful.

Soldiers he saved fighting for rights of the spoils of monsters he killed. People laying claim to Sasanoo. People laying claim to the Orochi’s corpse. People arrogantly or flatteringly coming up to him for favors. It all brings back the words his mom told him quite a few chapters ago. ‘Monsters are bad but humans can be much worse’.

Besides what did he know about Reta? She is an Elf. Was a Reaper. Can control an ancient Magic Formation. The only things she ever really did for him was further her goal of revenge on the dragons. There was never a cost for her to offer this help only reward. As the story said the Orochi was prepared as a Final Life Saver if she tried something. He didn’t want to use it, but Yu Ilhan is to smart to leave his fate in other peoples hands.

  1. Seink

I think Orochi cant use the formation that Reta activated to take control of Yu IlHan, because Orochi is not an elf XD
Maybe Orochi will revive as a pet?

    Thanks for the translation!

    1. Waht

It honestly feels like an asspull. Not because it’s impossible for such a lovable character to betray anyone, and that the twist was “performed too well! Did not suspect..!” — but that, this story does not feel like the type which has those types of twists and turns, with people being secretly evil under the hatch. Thus far, everything was incredibly straightforward. Every opponent was defeated head-on, and every character felt simple and easy to understand. Especially the MC, who’s practically just the author’s avatar.

TLDR: This sort of “I’m actually a bad guy!” twist doesn’t feel like it has anything to do with this story. And as evidence, she was almost immediately destroyed. So much for that. Feels kind of pointless, tbh.

  2. Drift

Reta, Reta… You could have actually have been a good teammate if you didn’t do the stupid… All those years as that reaper form really must have rotten her too much. Or maybe she was like that before then. All I know is that she underestimated our boy tooo much, and now paid for it. Who knows? He probably could have found a way to create a body for her to use if she didn’t pull that stunt. Ahh well, won’t shed a tear for such a scorpion of a character. Good chapter though! Can’t wait to see how the rest of this arc goes! Maybe Orochi will revive into a familiar for him or something?

      1. Bode

Just one won’t be near enough. Remember, since he is killing all the dragons which are dominating, he is virtually “destroying” Dareu, since he is annihilating them and getting nearly all of the available xp. And that’s just to make the 3 class. He would need to swept clean a lot of abandoned worlds to become a higher existence.

  3. Candied Skull

I would adore reading “Everyone Else is Human.”
Ill Han definitely did not live a thousand years for nothing. He’s a loner through and through (except when it comes to harem angels), he’s not dumb enough to trust someone that potentially suspicious.

  4. jbnitro

Such bullshit development out of the blue, because the author realized too late that he created a pretty meaningless character (Reta) just to introduce dragonkins and give an easy level up boost method to MC.
What’s the purpose of making an ally suddenly turn evil, when in the first place she was already ‘corrupted’ being a breaker!?
The author evidently changed his/her mind somewhere along the story, having realized how shallow Reta contribution to the future plot development would be.
Sigh. Just plan your story more properly instead of saying things like ‘it was intentionally planned from the beginning’ and ‘I did it to surprire my audience’! It’s just false self defence and cheap writing.
    So disappointed.

    1. Cabman

Not everyone is a good person you know.
And if I was a soul mage I would want to get a body as soon as possible too.

This doesn’t fall under the area of being evil but more of a gray area. Everyone’s out for themselves first and foremost. And I would do anything to get out of Soul state to get a real body

      1. jbnitro

I know that not everyone is kind-hearted but if you ready carefully the dialogues and interations between MC and Reta so far, this just comes out of nowhere. I bet my health and my job that the author just came uo with this betrayal and ‘evil schemer’ idea at the last moment. It wasn’t prematurely thought. He reads the readers’ comments on Munpia and when someone accurately predicts the future development of the story, he just decided to be ‘alternative’ writing something extremely different, just to show how unpredictable and imaginative he/she is!
He’s just a sucker for votes. Trying too hard to be ‘original’ but failing to deliver a robust and well thought story. It’s full of plot holes the size of a truck!! This ain’t how a decent fantasy parody story should be written. Sigh. Ok I’ll stop ranting and I’ll give the story one more chance to redeem itself.

        1. Sougo

Yep, even if the author did ‘planned’ for this betrayal, his execution of it is terrible. Reta delivered a long ass exposition at the end and get dust aside like she doesn’t even matter. The betrayal just feel so pointless and ass pulling even when taken into account Yu Ilan’s future deal with Orochi since that deal could have happened over anything else. Reta’s interactions with Yu Ilan from before is no different from any other fangirls of series drooling over him so the author really needed to give more of a foreshadowing than a line saying how she’s the one controlling the magic formation.

Anyway, I just hope that this is the last time the author is going to try and pull some last minutes stuff like this.

        2. Waht

Uh, dude, I totally agree with you — but I don’t find any of what you said to be a problem. I read this story fully knowing that the author pulls things out of his arse. The whole level up system was pretty much bullshit from point get-go. The fact that the author just farted out a twist out of nowhere, seemingly because another development seemed more interesting, is that shocking to you, and such a deal breaker? I already accepted that this is how this author does things, it took me 5 seconds to get over this whole “Reta is actually evil” thing.
Try not to take this story so seriously, since the author is practically writing this for shit and giggles, hm?

        3. saul

If you are reading like you said you are then you would have
noticed. That from the start he never really trusted her, the clues are there. He always forgot to bring her whit him in to the space. Even if she was powerful, he never used her as a weapon other than in these last ark and that only happen cause he need her to use the magic formation witch is a pretty big clue. if she is just a part of a soul how could she control the formation. Also from the start the told you that feeding the left over spirit to both the fire spirit and Orochi help them become stronger and smarter why would it not work on her. so do not said it was not plan properly now if you want to cry blood go read the latest arc of ATH and the stupid way the author added the last member of the harem. Then you will really see crappie excuse for a development.

          1. Tetsuki

Actually the development is really dumb. Even if I were there I would have taken a whole other way. Why betrayle him. Would have been better to keep him as an ally and just tell him about the formation so he can find a body for her to overtake. The mc was never a only good guy. I think he would have helped her get a new body at some point.

It’s like saying. The MCs harem is big enough we don’t need you soul so die because I like it.

          2. Anon

            To Tetsuki.

Actually i’s not that dumb. If you were to take over some body you would like it to be as strong as possible, no? It seems very plausible for me that she did what she did (although I didn’t expect it). After all she thought that she fooled him and that he had no way to defend when she moved.
So yeah, taking over most powerful body possible would be a thing for those pesky soul mages.

          3. Jonathan Hurd

So here are a few problems I have with saying that Reta should of acted differently….

First: Just as Yu Ilhan shouldn’t trust her unconditionally how does she know she can trust him.

Second: There are no assurances Yu Ilhan would make her a body.

Third: Even if Yu Ilhan makes her a body there is no way it would be stronger than the one Yu Ilhan has. Why settle for a slice when you can have the whole cake.

Fourth: Once Yu Ilhan leaves Dareu then all of Reta’s chances and strength to bargain is gone. She would be completely at Yu Ilhan’s mercy.

Fifth: Even if Yu Ilhan does make her a body and then leaves Dareu who is to promise he might not change his mind and come back to kill/destroy her/Dareu. He has already shown he is stronger than the Dragons who ruined Dareu and he is just getting stronger. Why in the world would she trust someone that much stronger than herself?

The biggest thing to me though with people saying stuff like this is out of character for Reta is, what do we even know about Reta really. First time we met her she was so consumed by the rampant magic as a breaker that she couldn’t string a proper thought together. Afterwards she was just a ghost of her former self stuck with an obsession to kill Dragons.

We saw her fawning over Yu Ilhan’s achievements, but we have seen other people do that too. For instance Na Yuna in her interactions with Yu Ilhan is always fawning over him and complimenting him trying to get into his good graces. We were shown there was more behind that than meets the eye as well.

Here is the thing this did not come out of completely nowhere to begin with. With the help of hindsight I think we can all reflect that Yu Ilhan stating to Erta “If you are conscious of the fact that you cannot believe anyone in the world, then you won’t have to worry about getting backstabbed.” That sentence is definitely a sign that he was expecting/foreshadowing a betrayal of someone he seemed to trust.

Now who is there that would betray him… Erta? Not really especially considering her feelings for him. Lita? Even less so. The Golden Dragon? He doesn’t have any reason to trust her to begin with. He himself stated their alliance is one more of convenience than anything else. The Empress? She has no reason to betray him and her doing so would truly be a betrayal of her character. Na Yuna? He doesn’t really trust her anyways and has no need to work with her. The Orochi? There isn’t really any trust to be had in that relationship. The only person that he is actively working with, who is also not hopelessly in love with him, and he might trust is basically Reta.

Was this betrayal shocking? Yes. I personally applaud the authors timing in it. He waited for the big climatic moment of the level up we have all been yearning for. To all of a sudden sucker punch us. I think that if the timing was before the class up we would of likely seen the betrayal coming. It is because all our attention was drawn to one direction that we didn’t see this coming even though there were some signs.

For me I started having some questions when Reta all of a sudden says the Dragons can block the formation and just ‘forgot’ to mention this fact before Yu Ilhan was swarmed… You’d think you would mention this possibility beforehand.

There is the fact that Reta has always been in control of the Magic Formation. The mention by the author that the Magic Formation could be gathered in one place. The fact that the Orochi was involved in an insurance. Heck, the title of the chapters we have constantly been seeing for 12 times all of a sudden makes a hell of a lot more sense.

The signs were there we were just caught up in the authors trick and were too focused on Yu Ilhan’s class up, fighting dragons, and making of new Artifacts to notice it.

      1. jbnitro

We English readers read it like some sort of Arc, but it’s just a long chapter with that title, if you look at the original site! On kobatochan it’s divided in more chapters so, I don’t believe he planned this development thoroughly. Last minute adjustment to be ‘smart’ and ‘alternative’.

          1. Azathoth

This, the chapters are the same in KR. It’s just that in the translation each new chapter has different numbering than in KR. For example the latest arc, from what I’ve seen, was titled chapter 41 – *insertgookhere*, as opposed to here where it’s chapter 95-*inserttitlehere*.

        1. extasse

I think the chapters are the same, even in the original site.
I admit that it was all done in one chapter, which is pretty unusual for a betrayl of someone who’s been there for quite a while. Put simply, it’s too short. The impact was there but it wasn’t done as well as it could’ve been.
On the other hand, I don’t see any of your “plot ‘holes’ the size of a truck” that you mentioned in your previous comment. In the first place, there are too many complaints with information dumping and this author tries to reduce the amount of words per chapter, which is why explanations slowly come over time. Maybe also because he doesn’t have time to consider every possible aspect of this ‘world’.
Judging by the baits and hints (Reta’s jealousy which was taken as admiration, lack of opinion until recently) the author left us, this was probably planned at least 2 to 3 arcs before, which is around 30 chapters ago. They were really subtle unlike the blatant foreshadowings in this novel, thus it may seem like random and on the spot but betrays aren’t supposed to be foreshadowed. Or rather, most novels have 0 foreshadowing.
Also, if you can’t adapt to your readers then you won’t do well as a writer. Your readers will start dropping the novel if you go with what you think is right but is disliked by the majority.

    2. Bode

What the hell do you mean by “out of the blue”… Don’t spit all that shit just because you didn’t saw the treachery flag. It’s okay if you wanted the Reta to be the silly and glad girl saved by the MC but man, shinigami are the guys that engage in lone and excessive killing, being twisted people is a prerequisite to become one. No one that goes all by himself/herself in a horde of monsters and bathe in their blood could would say “Th, the next one won’t be!” with just a little tease like she did in the chapter 91.

      1. Incompetence Hunter

What treachery flag? This came out of the blue. All of the “reasoning” you gave are absolute nonsense. Shinigamis must be traitors now, lol?

There is no flag. She acted genuinely. This was just a dumb twist in which the narrator is unreliable. The MC obviously knew that she was a traitor, but hid that from the audience. That is a dumb twist.

Please don’t try to justify this dumbassery with nonexistent flags. The only flag there was is that the author likes to put nonsensical betrayals to “shock” the audience. I wasn’t surprised, simply because I knew that author is dumb enough to use this as a distraction because of a lack of writing skills.

Honestly, someone driven to a corner, defending her nation, sacrificing herself, and ultimately freed, and passed her mission to someone else. You are saying that this seems like someone who would betray their benefactor?

There is no motive. There is no sense. Even the fucking mechanics of the betrayal doesn’t make sense and never came up before. Dude, if you have to come up with a brand new vaguely described magical bullshit that would fall apart upon cursory examination to fuel a betrayal, it is a shitty betrayal.

Do you care? I don’t. Why would I? All I am thinking is “Ok, but why though?”

    3. WARHORN

No king( queen ) is the UNSELFISH-HUMAN, pure-heart, cockbrained. They are full of intentions and can do ANYTHING to compass it. Reta has enought ambitiousness ( DERU ) and has opportunity to do that. Have so much hint before to predict this outcome

  5. Elmiel

The author is seriously awesome, this chapter is hilarious.. never have I thought about Reta betraying Ilhan, though I have some suspicion on the title..

  6. Pan

    Thank you for the chapter!
Nice twist there… damn, truly didn’t see that coming… I though she was going to be revived into some loli character or something….

So, he is advanced into Blazing Reaper the next chapter?! And please don’t tell me the deal were to revive orochi into the body of a dragon?! Well, if orochi turned into his pet I’m ok with it LOL

  7. BobbyWibowo

It should have been enough to make you suspicious through the arc’s title. All this time the title always had pretty huge relation to the end result. Whenever a new chapter of this arc was out, I was always thinking, who is this ‘You’? (from You, I, Strangers). So I knew it must have something to do with, yeah well, ‘we are strangers, don’t expect too much from me or something’. To be honest I didn’t expect Reta to be a traitor since the very beginning since it wasn’t such a heavily dark story or anything (it was more like I wasn’t expecting any such a dark side to this story), so I was quite surprised as well. But I knew something like this was about to come one way or another, since the title was already goddamn obvious (What? Were you expecting nothing like this would come from such a blatantly obvious title?). The fact that the title still went on from the start of the arc to the end was enough to guarantee that the one who became the ‘You’ isn’t just some random character that’s going to appear later as well. But oh well, whatever really. I wasn’t really expecting anything else from Reta since I never thought that Ilhan would even bother thinking of methods to make body for her or anything anyway. I only thought of her as another side character that will not last till the end of the story since there weren’t much ‘attachments’ to the story whenever I read her dialogues for some reason.

  8. Paps

GOD DAMN IT I never saw that coming, if it was a truck I would be in Isekai at this moment, and the author note nº 6 is just creepy. By the way thanks for the chapter it was a great one.

  9. Seblak

    Thanks for the chapter!
I was wondering…why the MC didn’t killed the dragons DURING the barrier activation? If the time is stoped, he should be able to at least hurt a bit the dragons or something…

    1. James

There are rules to Time Stop; one of them is “No other being, that’s not affected by the Time Stop, can be enacted on by the user of the Time Stop.”

He can hit them all he wants, but no physical damage will show or be shown while in the Time Stop. But that doesn’t say he can launch a couple thousand arrows at one person and make it near impossible to dodge once the Time Stop ends.

    2. MySchlongDong

Think of it like a bubble where time is stopped inside. He made that bubble separating him and the dragons. If he attacks, he pops the bubble. Time would no longer be stopped inside the bubble because there is no bubble because he popped the bubble.

The bubble is OP but not almighty.

  10. James

Oh Reta, you foolish elf. There’s a reason why certain people, such as dwarves, don’t like elves. They are fickle, and even though they live long, they don’t do anything really meaningful. Great beauties, but not the best planners. Only to be eaten by a nasty multi-headed dragon that’s named “Insurance”.

Rest in peace, Reta. You’ll be remembered as the Foolish Elven Reaper who failed the Soul Transfer.

Thanks for the chapter. Keep up the good work.

  11. ADE

    Finally title makes sense.

The betrayer vibe is strong for this arc, just waiting for the person in question to reveal themselves, especially after that Sunset dragon last chapter. Honestly thought that the dragon is lying (and the aforementioned Stranger), but this twist is much better.

  12. deadshift2010

Okay, I just want to point out that he better get the experience from all those dragons, and they should gain him 50-100 levels, or else we’ll have a problem. Seriously, how many of those higher existences were forced to go murk an entire planets worth of 3rd and 4th class DRAGONS? Either the mc is some special existence that needs more xp than other people, or his class is just so OP that he needs 2-3 times the amount of xp to level up

  13. Extasse

Don’t know what happened to my previous comment. Was it removed or was there a problem with posting?
Well, the author surprised me with that twist. Never thought anyone would ever be surprised by this author in EER, since he drops foreshadows that are way too obvious. Done too quickly for a betrayal though. Reta never seemed to have considered what to do with his body. Sure, he has an OP body and class but everything mostly comes from his good weapons, and skills. Won’t the skills/techniques leave along with his soul? Reta would definitely die when the rest of the 4th classes show up. What happens to the half activated formation now? I feel like he will rank up (anticipation for his new skill) and gain control of the formation to use it on the Orochi. Give it a new body or something? Technically wouldn’t the Orochi have multiple thoughts since it had multiple heads? Now what happens to the elves? Reta betrayed him but will he leave them alone or just go back to Earth. I have a feeling he’ll pop up just to see the Great Cataclysm happening.

  14. anon1

Just warning anyone who might use a phone to read on this website. There is this really persistent phone ad, mobile strike I believe when you read the newer chapters (at least on EEIAR chapter 91-95) so use an adblock web browser or just use you computer to read.

  15. David

So this is why he never took Reta together into the Time Barrier and why he said that if you don’t trust in others to begin with you can’t be backstabbed.

  16. Oldman

    Thanks for the chapter!
    Reta is a *****
I miss te old layer, i can’t use the google translator more… And my english sucks… Well, time to learn…
    Tanks again

  17. Maximak

Hmm, sorry to say this, but your chapters were already stolen!!!! A simple google seach will tell you what page it is…

Seriously, please improve your antithief system, if you are going to make difficult for us readers to read(no reader mode with firefox), at least make it so nobody can steal the chapters from you!!

    And thanks for the chapters!

  18. piya

@kobatochandaisuki thank you for the chapter and i have been waiting for the next chapter ever since i read this one. Having such a cliffhanger is killing me.

    1. Koukouseidesu Post author

well, the orochi doesn’t have a defined gender yet, but i’m pretty much willing to put my money on the fact that it’s female. Yu Ilhan is a chick magnet!

      1. Anon

Ahahaha, Orochi being female doesn’t sound that bad. And if she were to join harem then I hope we will see more of her. And why stop here? Make Orochi main heroine!

… I just that Orochi won’t die in stupid way trying to betray mc…

  19. maychellino

y’know i kinda agree with anon and bode, i mean :

“Th, the next one won’t be!”
    there where my suspicion start
i know no fart of reaper like class but i’m enough sure it’s someone who stand on mountain of corp’s or at least a person who kill a lot and not some flowery girl’s that know nothing of the world cruelty
plus she probably just trying to make illhan to spend as much magic stone as she can to prepare her magic circle so i was thinking that this might happen even though i was hoping that the author can make the tempo a bit beater

mr.jonathan i think you’r right because some time i got confused to this novel

  20. maychellino

but wont she know about what type of person ilhan was when she’s with him ?
so i think that its just her pure greed and ignorance that got her in that trouble

  21. Chapuz

As I said in one of the precious chapters:

1- It is literally impossible to avoid being copied. Those who want to read them a bit earlier will come here anyways. Remember that this is the site promoted by NovelUpdates too!
2- You should post a schedule of the future chapter releases, to make us know when to expect them.
    3- Thanks for the chapter!

  22. bushwhacker2k

Oh, so that’s why he didn’t let her into the barrier.

Not sure if it was lost in translation or what but I didn’t see this foreshadowed whatsoever.

  23. Seregosa

Is it bad if I just laughed when she stated how she was so cool and betrayed him and the mc was so foolish? I was expecting her to betray him from the start(in which novel do random souls like this with power to control souls not try to take over the mc or do him in? Too cliché)… Then I got even more sure of it when the mc didn’t let her in the time stop zone(from 80% to 99% sure) and started to talk to orochi about cooperation and what not as a countermeasure, what could it be for if not something relating to the soul?

Really was too obvious, but thanks to that I could just laugh away when she betrayed him and wait for the entrance of orochi 😀

  24. Incompetence Hunter

Asspull betryal is an asspull. It makes no sense. It is unpredictable. It is a dumb twist that came out of nowhere for no reason other than to have a twist.

I know this author. He does this a lot. He always feel the need to put in a twist betrayal. The butler did it! The dog did it! The dungeon master is the bad guy. That random dude was the bad guy.

It doesn’t fit the story. It isn’t foreshadowed. (And before anyone says something, random things which are easily explained is not foreshadowing.)

It has absolutely no impact. The author just put it in because he thinks it makes the story deeper or something. (It doesn’t. It just takes away from the story.) It is the act of an author too incompetence to write a good story without distractions.

That is what this is. A distraction. I don’t care about this. Why would I? It makes no sense. How is she doing this? Dunno, soul magic. How is she able to do this despite being a dead spirit? Dunno, soul magic. How is any of these happening? Dunno. Why is she doing this? Why is she ungrateful? Why did she act genuinely thankful? Why is she betraying him? Dunno. Don’t care.
